Vector Stunt Walkthrough
When I first played this driving game from DigYourOwnGrave, I wanted to write him an email: "You sir, have done a good job at killing my productivity!" Well, I was gearing up for a chess tourney three days from now. I was about to retire in my training, and I was looking for something to divert my attention quite a bit so I could focus MORE on what I need to do later. And I stumbled upon this driving game that sucked me into its world where you won't notice the time. Us chess players are known to be emotionally tough but it was no match for the addicting driving game! I just can't resist the temptation to play through every MP3 music found in my hard drive. At first, I wanted to do a little, BUT it wasn't enough. Little by little, my addiction for this unique driving game grew. If you are just looking for something that you can play for 5 minutes, look somewhere else. It's not that the game is long. BUT rather, it's so absorbing you would play it again and again and again. Trust me, I was a victim!
Back in the day, in 2007, the same guy - Dig Your Own Grave, brought us Vector Runner. This is a psychedelic driving game - a futuristic one, and one that showcases the hottest 3D graphics of 1982. Going back to Vector Stunt, the plucky little vector drawn ship, car, pod, or whatever you call it is back. And this time, you don't have to avoid anything. In this new arcade style driving game, you need to collect as many goodies (notes to be precise) as you can. You have to pull jaw dropping jumps and do sweet tricks you could only dream of. And sometimes, you need to do it in a first person pilot view, which makes the experience even better! And to make the deal even sweeter, you can play with the energetic soundtrack created by an indie band named Aerodrone or you can load your favorite MP3 sound tracks to personalize your game. Eye Of The Tiger, Chariots Of Fire, Party Rock Anthem - as long as it's MP3, you can load and play with it trouble-free.
The track - the race track not the sound track, contains squares. These squares represent notes and picking them up gives you points depending on its color. The most common way to make sure you rack up as many points as possible to chain common notes for extra points. On the other hand, you can also pull off jumps and stunts off the ramps continuously or you can jump on the rail in between rumps. You can get score multipliers... sometimes up to 10 times! The ramps are not created equal. Some ramps are marked with a red arrow and this allows you to possibly gain a ruby red note for 10000 whopping points. Moving forward, there's a white marked notes allow you to go into first person pilot mode. As it says, you get to see everything in first person view. It's disorienting BUT it's FUN, not to mention it gives you a x 2 multiplier. You may need a few tries to get a hang of the pilot mode, BUT once you do, you might even find it to be the best thing that the game has to offer. Nothing can really hurt you or your score in this game except for falling on the side and drifting into the abyss, and that will slash off 10,000 points from your score so be a little careful. If you need a little refresher, just pause the game with the P or ESC button and that will automatically bring up the instructions.
At first glance, this driving game looks very much like the music game Audiosurf. HOWEVER, although the MP3 music you load does affect the notes, the integration between the music and game play isn't really that deep. This makes it more of a 'pick your own theme song or soundtrack' kind of feature. You can check out the other songs that people play and you can even download them on Amazon.com. The game designer is quite smart I should say.
Now, slow and gentle music doesn't fare that well. You need something that's fast paced and energetic. The song "Ready To Love", which is provided in the game, is good. BUT of course, you want to vary your songs so you may need to do a little digging on your hard drive on download a couple of songs from the internet. So what on earth are you waiting for? Put your speakers and subwoofers on full volume. Load your fastest and MOST energetic song. Get those fingers warmed up and get ready to chain up your highest score!
