The controls of Coaster Racer are both straightfoward and explained in-game by clicking Help. Up accelerates the car, and down slams on the brakes while left and right steer. You can use either the arrow keys or WASD depending on your own preference. X and N activate the nitrous, which as any fan of driving games would know sharply boosts your speed for a limited time. There is a delay between using consecutive nitro boosts. Z and M send you into freestyle mode while held down. In freestyle mode, you take your hands off the wheel and your point gain doubles. However, you can't steer.

Coaster Racer Walkthrough
Coaster Racer is a first-person racing game that can be compared to earlier games of the genre, such as Monaco Gran Prix on the Sega Genesis. The races take place on long but narrow tracks with 15 other racers who all want first place. This game is quite simple for racing game players who believe that brakes were installed on the car by mistake since it's very on-rails. Even 90-degree turns are handled with a degree of automaticness.
Depending on your place at the end of the race, you will gain money that can be used to upgrade your car's speed, handling, and nitro. When choosing upgrades for your car, it's best to work on the top speed and nitro, as grabbing the first place early means that acceleration is not going to be a major issue early in the game. Money can also be acquired by grabbing the green $ pickups along the track, the value depending on the track itself.
Whenever you unlock a new track in Coaster Racer or not depends on your position in the previous course. Simply get the Qualifying position and you'll unlock more tracks. The other racers are likely to be in better karts than you, so it may take multiple attempts to beat a course.
Along the edges of the tracks are barriers that will sharply reduce your speed if you come into contact with them, just like any driving game. There are also points on the tracks where there are are no barriers at all, and falling off the edge is a death sentence to your performance as you will be falling for a while and sent back a good distance along the track. As long as at least one tire remains on the track however, you wont fall off.
A few tips for Coaster Racer: Speed is more important than handling. Keep your finger on the Nitro button and don't bother with the brakes. If you must slow down to make a sharp turn, take your finger off the accelerator for a second and let your own turning and the game's engine do the rest. Second, the first few times you do a race in Coaster Racer, you should prioritize getting as much money as possible. Each money pickup is worth $5 multiplied by the track number, so it gets easier to gain more funds as the game progresses.
